On 26th of May, Foxes Class were fortunate to have an interview with one of our favourite authors Jennifer Killick. This was really special as they are reading one of her novels currently called Alex Sparrow and the Really Big Stink. She spoke to us about her process when it comes to writing and why she feels reading and writing are so important not just in school but in life. We then had the opportunity to ask some of our questions. She gave us three main tips to make sure our writing is as amazing as we know it can be.
Tip one: Look after your imagination! By looking after your imagination it will work for you when you need it.
Tip two: Make sure your plan is as detailed as it can be. This will really help you when you get to your writing.
Tip three: Never give up with your writing. Sometimes writing can be frustrating but if we continue and persevere our writing will be amazing in the end.

On 23rd April we held our Digital Lift Off day, a trust wide initiative to start to raise awareness and money towards the purchase of IPADs for use at school and home for all children in Year 3 and above.
We created a real buzz around this event and the children took part in many activities throughout the day. Without a doubt, the star of the day was Hackwood's very own rocket! The children had a think about what career they would like to pursue when they were older, and stuck their ideas onto the rocket. Throughout the course of the day we managed to raise a galactic £155, which is a brilliant start to the initiative.

We love celebrating World Book Day at Hackwood Primary Academy! Our students (and staff!) made a fantastic effort this year. Promoting posiitve reading habits amongst our children is very important to us and it's great to have a celebratory day in recognition of that each year. We hope you enjoy this selection of our costumes and outfits from World Book Day 2021.

We were delighted to celebrate World Book Day in school as we love reading in school every day. To have a day where we get to spend even more time reading is a special opportunity and one we would never miss. Most parents did dress up so we hope you enjoy looking at their costumes. Please also notice the photos of children reading - to themselves, to each other and listening to adults.

Owl Class was pleased to be asked by Brian from Morgan Sindall, who built our lovely school, to take part in a big competition. They had to use recyclable materials to build a structure. As the class have been studying the Egyptians this term it was decided to build a pyramid. The class worked with Mrs Binoy and Brian to plan their ideas. They learnt about how the environment is being damaged by wasting plastic and by cutting down trees. The class enjoyed working with Brian and his term of Arthur, Rory and James to contruct the frame from sustainable wood. They used the saws, screwdriver and nails safely. Working in small groups they each got to take their turn. There were 2 groups making the frame for the pyramid, 1 group putting the cardboard on it and 1 group making the mummy to go inside. We hope our structure will be the biggest and the best and will let you know if we win. All the children are looking forward to receiving their certificate and 'fun pack' for entering. Thanks Brian for working in partnership with Hackwood. Great job children!
Our Owl Visitors - 16th October 2019
Date: 16th Oct 2019 @ 5:43pm
The school was delighted today that Archie and Gizmo came to visit us. They flew round the hall and everyone that wanted to had a photo with the owl. The owls were pleased to get a bit of chicken as a reward. Many thanks to Classroom Partnership, the supply teacher agency, who generously sponsored this event for us.

Owl and Rabbit Class really enjoyed having Ellis the rabbit come to live with us for the week. He was so cute! The children made some fabulous drawings and paintings of him and it was our highlight of the week.
