Welcome to the Badgers class! 

Every day we encourage and support the children believe in themselves, achieve their goals and achieve. 

Year 5 is an exciting year as throughout the year we will be covering units such as Terrific Tudors, What the Victorians Did for Us, A Voyage of Discovery and Viva Espana. We will be using this learning to inspire our reading and writing while learning new skills and reflecting to improve our outcomes.  Our INSPIRE curriculum allows for us to enjoy an enriched curriculum which will also include a variety of trips and workshops as well as INSPIRE afternoons where the pupils can share their learning. 

Here are a few things you might like to know about our year group: 

PE Days: 

Autumn 1 – Tuesday and Thursday 

The rest of the terms – Monday and Thursday. 

Please ensure your child comes to school in the correct PE kit. Long hair should be tied up and any jewellery should be removed before coming to school. 

Homework: 

Spellings will be sent out every Monday and the spelling test will be held the following Tuesday. Please practise the spellings with your child, encouraging them to use the words in sentences too. 

On the school website there is also a homework menu with some homework activities for you and your child work on together. 

Reading: 

Please read with your child regularly. It is essential that they read regularly to develop their ability to decode words fluently and develop their understanding and reading skills. 

Maths:   

Being fluent in times tables up to 12x12 is an essential part of maths. Children have access to Times Table Rockstar on their iPads, where they can practise their times tables. All children also have access to Sumdog, which they can use to practise their reasoning skills.
